Traditional Unemployment and Independent Contractor Status

If you are in an appeals process related to pandemic unemployment benefits, your status as an independent contractor should not disqualify you.

For traditional unemployment claims- which are now all new claims, as pandemic unemployment has ended- independent contractors are not eligible to collect.

You should know, however, that the Massachusetts Independent Contractor Law sets a very strict standard for who should be considered an employee under the law, rather than a contractor....
